Emergency & Critical Care
Joanna Lloyd, VMD, completed an undergraduate degree at Williams College, then worked for two years at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory researching genetic mutations associated with autism. Realizing that a career of pure research was not her preference, she began to pursue her desire to work with animals by earning a Veterinary Technician Associate’s degree and working for a year as a technician in an emergency and referral practice. She then earned her VMD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Lloyd completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at New England Animal Medical Center, and worked for two years at an emergency and referral hospital outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania, before joining AERA in 2016. Her interests include urinary obstruction, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances, and trauma stabilization. Outside of work she enjoys DIY projects like making jewelry and bath products, and has a mini menagerie including two dogs, a pride of hand-raised cats, and two birds.
