GENERAL PURPOSE:

The responsibility of the Veterinary Specialty Nurse- Anesthesia is to provide primary support to the Specialist with all diagnostics, treatments, and procedures, while ensuring the best quality of care possible for our patients. The Veterinary Nurse must pay attention to detail and maintain very high standards of cleanliness and care.  The Veterinary Nurse must be able to communicate well with the doctor and coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide support to the Specialist with incoming consultations and procedures.
  • Practice “Fear Free” standards and protocols
  • Understand the organization and operations of the department.
  • Ability to manage the daily OR schedule timely and efficiently.  
  • Responsible for reviewing patient history, lab work, and radiographs to identify concerns and determine ASA status.
  • Ensure completion of necessary diagnostic and outline anesthetic and surgical drug plan.
  • Calculate and prepare anesthetic, surgical, and emergency drugs, IVF, and CRIs.
  • Ensure completion of anesthesia check lists.
  • Induce anesthesia, manage anesthetic plan, and maintain homeostasis.
  • Ability to be proactive in preventing anesthetic or homeostatic issues and intervene appropriately when issues arise.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of each specific surgical case, set-up, and potential procedural complications.
  • Ability to prepare for, prevent, and handle any patient specific complication that may arise.
  • Review post-operative treatment plan and prepare treatment sheets to reflect the highest standard of care.
  • Outline the post-operative analgesic plan, including TGH medications.
  • Complete post-operative diagnostics and other orders.
  • Recover each patient smoothly with the ability to intervene if delirium, dysphoria, and/or pain is displayed.
  • Ability to properly assess pain, assign pain score, and treat pain if present.
  • Provide basic client education on nutrition, home care, zoonotic diseases, medication administration, post-operative care, and all other hospital recommendations/protocols, as directed by the Specialist.
  • Re-stock and maintain cleanliness of specialty department area, exam rooms, and all other areas of hospital.
  • Train less experienced staff members on proper policies, procedures, technical skills, and medical information
  • Cross-train to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Ability to perform all key responsibilities of Technician Assistant.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and acceptable sanitation/sterilization practices.
  • Comprehension of commonly used medical terminology and equipment.
  • Ability to calculate accurate dosages and injections.
  • Familiarity with CPR and rescue breathing.
  • Ability to take direction from a variety of people under various situations and accurately follow instructions.
  • Capability of anticipating needs of Doctors and Nurses and show initiative.
  • Ability to react quickly and appropriately during emergency situations and remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication/people skills.
  • Good grooming and hygiene.
  • Must have team-oriented attitude and promote positive culture.
  • Considerable tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients affected by a variety of problems.
  • Ability to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Capability to kneel, bend, and to lift various sizes of animals onto treatment tables, without assistance at times (< 50 lbs)

  • Assist doctors and technicians with any needs that arise.

  • Re-stock and maintain cleanliness of ICU, treatment area, surgery, radiology, ultrasound, hospital wards, exam rooms, laboratory & pharmacy areas.
  • Laundry, sweeping, mopping, and general custodial responsibilities.
  • ER/triage preparation, procedure preparation (lac repair, blocked cat, etc), OR setup, breakdown & disinfection, pack preparation, instrument sterilization, and equipment cleaning/maintenance.
  • Assist with basic treatment responsibilities: walking dogs, feeding patients, obtaining weights, cleaning cages and bedding, and preparing for in-patient procedures.
  • Documenting accurately into patient medical records (treatment sheets, computer).

The responsibility of the Client Service Representative is to provide a high-quality experience that meets or exceeds the expectations of our clients. Foster a positive relationship with our referral community and AERA. Set the tone for the practice to build and maintain each client and referral veterinarian’s trust and confidence in our abilities. Quickly understand client and referral veterinarian’s needs and initiate the process of meeting those needs. Support the emergency & critical care department and support staff. Ensure the clients and the referral community are provided with excellent communication regarding pet care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the front desk by greeting clients, checking patients in and out, admitting patients to the hospital, scheduling re-check appointments, and signing visitors and vendors in.
  • Perform administrative duties such as printing documents, records, schedules, pulling charts, filing, emailing records, and distributing mail.
  • Answer phones promptly with a pleasant tone of voice.
  • Actively listens, communicates, and assists with all client needs.
  • Appropriately triage all emergency phone calls and emergency cases upon entry to the hospital.
  • Oversee the clinic flow.
  • Collect payment deposits from clients. Process admission and transfer paperwork for hospitalized patients or pets being admitted to the hospital.
  • Take accurate messages and direct callers to the appropriate department liaison.
  • Maintain knowledge of phone numbers and extensions to reach employees throughout the network.
  • Assist management with patient referral records by regularly checking email, referral requests link, and faxes. Correctly download records to the appropriate patient electronic record.
  • Assist with explanation and completion of euthanasia paperwork and send sympathy cards.
  • Discuss payment options with clients.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the front desk and file room area. Stock supplies and note any items that need ordering by entering them in the inventory request list.
  • Stock and clean the client’s coffee/snack bar.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years working within a customer service environment required.
  • 1-2 years of veterinary or related experience preferred.
  • Must be computer literate; basic computer skills with ability to navigate new software.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly skilled at multitasking accurately and pleasantly with a high volume of calls and tasks.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations, responding quickly and respectfully to requests for assistance.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The responsibility of the Veterinary ER/Triage Nurse is to provide primary support to the ER doctors with all treatments and procedures, while ensuring the best quality of care possible for our patients. The Veterinary ER Nurse must pay attention to detail and maintain very high standards of cleanliness and care.  The Veterinary ER Nurse must be able to communicate well with coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide care to incoming emergencies.
  • Triage/patient assessment, obtain vital data, IVC placement, phlebotomy, intubations, administering injections, radiology, laboratory, basic anesthesia (prep/assistance/monitoring), recover CPR.
  • Administer basic first aid as needed.
  • Administer treatment and monitor status of critical care and intensive care patients, provide stabilization support (temp, BP, fluid resuscitation, etc.).
  • Document and communicate patient information accurately into patient medical records (triage, critical care, treatment sheets, computer).
  • Communicate patient status, changes in status, patient report information accurately and thoroughly with doctor and ICU staff.
  • Maintain clean, dry and comfortable surroundings for all patients.
  • Set up and maintain equipment as needed, knowledge of use of monitoring/diagnostic equipment.
  • Safely and effectively restrain patients.
  • Record medical history/data accurately.
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by doctors.
  • Collect, prepare, label and test laboratory specimens as needed.
  • Provide assistance with patient euthanasia and aftercare of remains in a timely manner.
  • Suture removals, ear cleaning and nail trims.
  • Provide basic client education on nutrition, home care, zoonotic diseases, medication administration, post-operative care, and all other hospital recommendations/protocols, as directed by a veterinarian.
  • Re-stock and maintain cleanliness of treatment area, exam rooms, lab, pharmacy, radiology.
  • Train less experienced staff members on proper policies, procedures, technical skills, and medical information.
  • Cross-train to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Technician Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Ability to perform all key responsibilities of Technician Assistant.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and acceptable sanitation/sterilization practices.
  • Comprehension of commonly used medical terminology and equipment.
  • Ability to calculate accurate dosages and injections.
